The outlet reported that investigatiors found no indication of an ongoing threat to the public. Police have yet to release the names of those who were found, citing the fact that they have not informed family members.
As of Saturday evening, the investigation is still ongoing. Officials revealed that the shooting was due to domestic violence, though officials told The New York Times who might have carried out the shooting.
Chief Brannen Pruette of the Douglas Police Department said that hours before the shooting, a woman, whom he referred to as "the wife, the female victim," had called complaining about her husband, who had been smoking in the house.
According to the chief, the woman said that "he was killing her with the smoke." Police later claimed that the person who had instigated the shooting had been killed, but it remains unclear whether there was one or multiple people who carried out the shooting.
Aside from noting the killings were linked to domestic violence, Pruette did not offer any more details. Mayor Tony Paulk issued a statement in the wake of the deaths.
"This devastating loss of life has shaken our community and left families, friends and loved ones facing unimaginable grief," he said. "No words can adequately express the sorrow surrounding such a tragedy."
Pruette announced that the bodies of the victims would be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's crime lab for autopsies.
