Man Utd Make Final Michael Carrick Sack Decision After Tottenham Draw

According to a report by TeamTalk on Saturday October 10, 2026, Manchester United have decided against dismissing Michael Carrick despite their disappointing 1-1 Premier League draw against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday evening, with INEOS continuing to back the manager.

United appeared on course for victory after Bryan Mbeumo broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute. However, Tottenham refused to surrender, producing a dramatic late equaliser despite being reduced to ten men.

Rodrigo Bentancur received a red card five minutes after Mbeumo’s opener for headbutting Luke Shaw. Nevertheless, Dominic Solanke rescued a point for Spurs by scoring in the second minute of stoppage time.

The result leaves Manchester United 12th in the Premier League standings, having collected just six points from six matches. Their disappointing start has raised questions about Carrick’s future, although the club’s leadership remains supportive.

TEAMtalk transfer insider Graeme Bailey previously reported that United’s hierarchy had confidence in Carrick. He reiterated that position before Saturday’s encounter, explaining that the club’s expectations for the campaign were not necessarily a title challenge.

Bailey explained on TEAMtalk’s YouTube channel: “The message from the club, they don’t think they have played too badly.” He acknowledged that occupying 12th place was disappointing but stressed that Carrick was not expected to win the championship.

According to Bailey, United’s primary objective was securing a top-four finish, although achieving that target already appears increasingly difficult. Nevertheless, he emphasised that the season remained in its early stages and circumstances could deteriorate further.

Before the Tottenham fixture, Bailey warned that a defeat might have intensified scrutiny surrounding Carrick’s position. He suggested that the situation could look different if Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham secured victory at Old Trafford.

However, the draw has not changed INEOS’ position, with sources indicating that Carrick faces no immediate threat of dismissal. United’s co-owners are therefore prepared to give him additional time to improve results and strengthen the team’s performances.

Despite growing frustration among supporters, Carrick retains the backing of the club’s leadership. His immediate challenge is turning United’s disappointing results around, climbing the standings and demonstrating progress towards their European qualification ambitions this season.
