Record breaking heat lingers before a cool down early this week

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Saturday brought record breaking heat into Sioux City! Strong winds were present gusting up to 45 mph. The dry, hot, and windy conditions brought an elevated fire risk.

Winds continue to be breezy Saturday night out of the south and southeast at 10-20 mph. It will be another warm evening under a clear sky. Lows will drop to the lower 60s. Breezy south winds keep lows warm.

More sunshine on Sunday with hot temperatures, slightly cooler than Saturday. Highs will be in the upper 80s with winds persisting out of the south at 10-20 mph. Winds will be weaker but still breezy at times. Winds drop off heading towards Monday.

Monday a front will make its way across the area which will relax winds. The timing of this front will determine highs on Monday. Right now, it looks like the front will be in the evening and overnight hours allowing highs to reach into the upper 70s and lower 80s. After the front moves through temperatures return to seasonable, in the middle 60s midweek and lower 60s by the end of the work week. The potential for our first frost of the season arrives Friday morning, lows could be in the lower 30s.

Rain chances this week are small, a few stray, light, isolated cells of rain are possible Monday night leaving a trace of rain in northern Siouxland. Another rain chance comes later in the week overnight Wednesday continuing on Thursday as isolated showers with an otherwise cloudy sky.
