Behind Isaias, all is calm in the Atlantic Basin
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – Isaias made a landfall across the Florida Panhandle (near Destin) on Friday evening around 8:30PM as a Cat. 2 hurricane. At the time of landfall, it had max sustained winds of 105 MPH. After battering the Coast, it moved farther inland, bringing heavy rain to Alabama and parts of Florida, before becoming Post-Tropical.
As for our area, we received minimal impacts from Isaias, other than some rain and gusty winds. After talking with multiple EMA directors in our area, we came away with minimal to no damage and flooding to our area.
Isaias was both the first hurricane and the first significant hurricane of the 2026 season. As of Saturday afternoon, we’re calm again in the Atlantic basin, not monitoring any areas of interest. Still, now isn’t the time to drop our guard. There are still around 7 weeks left in the 2026 Hurricane Season.
