Chelsea 5-1 Bournemouth: Five Things That Was Learnt As Henderson Steals The Show

According to a report by football.london on October 10, 2026, Chelsea produced an impressive 5-1 victory over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge, with Jordan Henderson delivering a standout performance while manager Xabi Alonso addressed defensive concerns and issued instructions to Levi Colwill during the match.

Chelsea made a remarkable start, with Henderson opening the scoring from outside the penalty area before helping create the second goal shortly afterwards. Morgan Rogers’ effort was deflected into the net by Bournemouth defender Antonio Silva, giving Chelsea a two-goal advantage inside the opening minutes.

The Blues continued their fast start after the break when Joao Pedro scored following Pedro Neto’s pressing and delivery. Bournemouth responded through Evanilson, who capitalised on a loose ball after a corner, exposing Chelsea’s continuing problems with defensive set-pieces. Joao Pedro later scored again before Henderson completed his brace with a superb free-kick.

Alonso was also seen directing Colwill to mark Evanilson more tightly, highlighting the manager’s attention to defensive positioning despite Chelsea’s commanding lead.

Henderson’s contribution extended beyond his goals. After scoring his second, he acknowledged Chelsea’s set-piece coach, suggesting the free-kick routine had been carefully rehearsed in training.

Despite the emphatic victory, Chelsea’s inability to keep a clean sheet remained a concern. The Blues had not shut out an opponent since January 17, 2026, when they defeated Brentford 2-0.

The result nevertheless provided Alonso’s side with renewed momentum, combining early attacking intensity, effective pressing and Henderson’s experience to secure three valuable Premier League points.
