Afghan resistance groups claim 30 Taliban killed in series of attacks across Afghanistan
Armed resistance groups in Afghanistan have claimed responsibility for a series of attacks against Taliban forces across several provinces over the past week, reporting at least 30 Taliban personnel killed, 13 wounded and a military helicopter destroyed.
The reported operations targeted Taliban positions, commanders and security personnel in Panjshir, Badakhshan, Nuristan, Kapisa, Kandahar, Helmand and Bamiyan, according to statements attributed to various resistance groups.
On October 7, the Afghan Green Trend reportedly carried out an operation in Panjshir, destroying an Indian-made Cheetah helicopter operated by the Taliban.
According to the account, Mullah Qibla-ullah Muqeem, chief of staff of the Taliban Air Force, and two pilots, Abdul Azim and Mohammad Naeem, were critically injured in the incident.
The Afghan Freedom Front (AFF) reported carrying out an ambush against a Taliban commander’s vehicle in Badakhshan on October 6, killing the commander and four bodyguards. The group said the vehicle was destroyed.
On October 7, the AFF also reported an attack in Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan, claiming that four Taliban personnel, including a commander, were killed.
The account alleged that Taliban authorities subsequently arrested, harassed and tortured local civilians following the attack.
In Nuristan, the AFF said its fighters repelled an attempted Taliban assault on resistance positions in Kamdesh district on October 7.
The group claimed that 11 Taliban personnel were killed and at least eight wounded during clashes lasting six hours, forcing Taliban forces to retreat.
The AFF also reported launching rocket and machine-gun attacks on Taliban positions in Kohistan district of Kapisa province on October 7, claiming three personnel killed and two wounded.
In southern Afghanistan, the Afghanistan United Front (AUF) said it targeted a commander of the Taliban’s Tayyab Network in Kandahar on October 6.
The group identified the commander as Izzatullah and said he was killed in the attack.
The AUF also claimed responsibility for four operations conducted between October 3 and 6 in Arghandab, Kandahar, and Lashkar Gah, Helmand, reporting three Taliban personnel killed and three wounded.
Meanwhile, the National Resistance Front (NRF) claimed to have killed Safihullah Mutawakkil, deputy head of Taliban intelligence in Faizabad, along with two bodyguards in an attack in Badakhshan.
In Jalalabad, the National Mobilization Front (NMF) reported an October 5 attack on the intelligence command of Nangarhar Central Jail.
The group said Waheed Wisal, deputy director of investigations at the prison, was killed.
The Andarab Resistance Front was also reported to be continuing operations against Taliban forces in Andarab, Badakhshan and Nuristan.
In Bamiyan, the Afghan Republic Front reported carrying out two consecutive attacks on October 4 and 5 against Taliban convoys transporting minerals.
The group also declared individuals and entities cooperating with Taliban authorities in mining operations to be legitimate military targets.
The reported attacks indicate activity by several armed opposition groups across different parts of Afghanistan. The resistance groups have linked their campaigns to opposition to Taliban policies, restrictions, alleged oppression and the management of natural resources.
