Sir Alex Ferguson Sends Emotional Message Over Manchester United’s New Stadium

According to a Facebook post by Fabrizio Romano on Saturday, October 10, 2026, former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has expressed his hope of attending the opening ceremony of the club’s proposed new stadium, declaring that he would be there “in person or in spirit”.

Ferguson, widely regarded as one of the greatest managers in football history, reflected on his life, mortality and enduring love for Manchester United while discussing plans to replace Old Trafford with a new stadium.

The legendary Scottish manager admitted that although he occasionally thinks about death, he remains focused on making the most of his life and spending valuable time with the people close to him.

“I’m not one to dwell on what my Maker has in store for me, nor am I afraid of dying. Mortality is always with us, even at the most unexpected of times”.

“I’m much more interested in squeezing the most out of life”.

“There’s much I want to do and a lot of people with whom I want to spend time”.

Ferguson also revealed that the club’s announcement of plans for a new stadium made him wonder whether he would still be alive to witness its opening.

“When Man United announced their plans for a fabulous new stadium to replace Old Trafford, so I found myself wondering whether I would be around to celebrate its opening”.

He expressed hope that construction would begin quickly, explaining that a five-year project would mean he would be approaching 90 by the time it was completed.

“I hope they get to break ground quickly because if it takes five years to complete, I’ll be pushing ninety years old then”.

Despite the uncertainty, Ferguson remained confident that he would be part of the historic occasion.

“However, I know I’ll be at the ceremony one way or another in person or in spirit”.

His emotional words highlight the deep bond between Ferguson and Manchester United, where his legacy continues to inspire generations of supporters.
