Shehbaz calls for automated baggage checks
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for modern, automated systems to check passengers’ luggage at airports, with passenger comfort and convenience remaining the top priority.
Chairing a review meeting on the customs system, the prime minister said that the outdated procedures for checking passengers’ baggage must be abandoned and replaced with internationally recognised automated systems.
He said that the passengers must not face unnecessary inconvenience and that staff responsible for airport facilities must receive training in line with international standards. The premier said that the courtesy and respect for human dignity must be key parts of service delivery training.
The prime minister said tax-paying businesses deserved respect, while the government would adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards tax evasion.
He said the government was the custodian of public money and would make every possible effort to protect it.
PM Shehbaz has praised the new customs enforcement system and credited the chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and his team for its introduction.
He directed that the authorities to take all possible measures to prevent revenue evasion.
