Three suspected cash-in-transit robbers have been shot and killed following a shootout with the police.

It is reported that on the afternoon, 09 October 2026 a team of law enforcement officers followed up on crime intelligence information about a group of people using two vehicles reportedly on their way to commit a robbery at Roodepoort. 

One of the vehicles, a white Mercedes-Benz, was spotted on Kliprivier road. As the vehicle approached the traffic lights, the police attempted to stop it. The suspects allegedly opened fire on the officers, who retaliated.

During the exchange of gunfire, the suspects’ vehicle lost control and collided with two civilian vehicles on the N12 road, resulting in injuries of three civilians. The injured victims were transported to hospital for medical attention.

All three suspects in the vehicle were certified dead and two AK-47 rifles, multiple rounds of ammunition and magazines were found inside their vehicle.

The second vehicle, a white Audi was traced and found at Johanneaburg CBD. Two suspects were arrested.
