“We Don’t Want Any Chinese Person In This Market” – Kano Phone Traders Reportedly Chase Chinese Nationals Away

Phone traders in Kano have reportedly chased Chinese nationals away from their market over allegations that they sell phones directly to customers at cheaper prices.

In a video circulating online, some traders were heard warning the Chinese nationals against doing business in the market and nearby areas.

“We don’t want to see any of you in this market or even in this area, we don’t want to see you,” one trader said.

Another trader declared: “We don’t want to see any china person coming to this market and doing business. We have our own organization and our own time.”

The incident has sparked reactions on social media, with some Nigerians criticising the traders over their reported actions, while others raised concerns about how local businesses respond to competition.

One commenter argued that Nigerians conduct business in China without facing similar restrictions, while another questioned why traders would want to prevent customers from accessing cheaper phones.

Others also drew comparisons with the treatment of Igbo traders in different parts of the country.

However, the circumstances surrounding the confrontation and the Chinese nationals’ responses have not been independently confirmed. It also remains unclear whether any official action has been taken over the incident.
