55-Year-Old Driver Escapes Unhurt As Red Line Train Hits Honda Accord At PWD Railway Line In Lagos
A 55-year-old motorist reportedly escaped unhurt on Friday, October 9, 2026, after a moving Red Line train operated by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) collided with his Honda Accord sedan at the PWD railway line in Lagos.
Following the incident, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said in a press release that its operatives and security personnel worked together to rescue the motorist and remove the Honda car from the railway track.
Although LASTMA has not disclosed the exact circumstances that led to the collision, the Authority said the Red Line train was travelling towards Agege when it collided with the black Honda sedan bearing registration number EKY 902 JT.
The impact of the collision reportedly caused extensive damage to the Honda Accord sedan, leaving it virtually a write-off, as seen in images taken at the scene. Despite the severity of the crash, LASTMA said the 55-year-old driver survived without any reported injuries.
LASTMA noted that the coordinated response by its operatives and security personnel helped clear the obstruction, allowing the train to resume its journey towards Agege. The damaged Honda car was subsequently handed over to security personnel for further investigation into the cause of the collision.
“Despite the successful removal of the wrecked automobile from the railway track, vehicular movement around the PWD axis remains severely impeded, with considerable traffic congestion continuing to undermine the smooth flow of traffic along the affected corridor,” LASTMA noted.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the agency’s operatives and security personnel for their prompt response and effective collaboration in managing the incident. He noted that their intervention helped prevent further complications following the collision.
Bakare-Oki also stressed the importance of vigilance and strict compliance with railway safety regulations, particularly when approaching railway crossings and designated train corridors. He warned motorists against attempting to cross railway tracks when a train is approaching or already in motion.
LASTMA urged motorists and other road users to exercise extreme caution around railway crossings and obey all applicable safety instructions. The agency emphasised that human life must remain the priority, warning that reckless decisions around moving trains can have devastating consequences.
