KP needs peace, better governance, says PPP

ISLAMABAD  –  The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has urged the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to abandon long march and protest politics and focus on resolving public grievances, saying Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) needs peace, effective governance and economic relief rather than political confrontation.

PPP Secretary General Muhammad Humayun Khan, in a statement issued in response to PTI’s protest campaign, called on political leaders to place national interests above personal and partisan agendas and work towards political reconciliation, democratic continuity and effective governance.

He said the people of KP were facing mounting challenges, including a deteriorating law and order situation, unemployment, economic hardship and inadequate basic facilities.

Instead of protests and political confrontation, he said, the people needed peace, employment opportunities, quality education, better healthcare and relief from the rising cost of living.

Humayun Khan urged the PTI to channel its political energies into addressing public grievances and improving governance in the province.

He stressed that political activities should not disrupt daily life, business operations or economic activity, particularly when people were already struggling with inflation and financial pressures.

The PPP leader said KP’s resources belonged to its people and should be spent on public welfare rather than partisan interests. He called for greater investment in education, healthcare, employment generation, essential public services and development projects, adding that protecting citizens’ lives and property and meeting their basic needs were among the provincial government’s foremost responsibilities.

Expressing concern over the province’s security situation, he said the people wanted lasting peace, protection from insecurity and relief from economic hardship.

He urged the provincial government to prioritise restoring law and order, safeguarding citizens and improving administrative performance rather than concentrating on political activities and rhetoric.

Peace and stability were essential for sustainable development, investment and business growth, he said, warning that economic progress would remain difficult without a secure environment.

The PPP secretary general also highlighted the challenges facing traders and businesses in KP, calling for effective measures to protect commercial activity and promote economic growth. He said the concerns of government employees also required serious attention and urged the provincial government to address their legitimate grievances through meaningful engagement.

Humayun Khan maintained that improving education and healthcare required practical measures and effective implementation rather than announcements alone.

He said political accusations, inflammatory rhetoric and mudslinging could not resolve public problems, adding that political differences should be settled through the Constitution, Parliament, democratic principles and meaningful dialogue rather than confrontation.

Urging all political parties to rise above partisan considerations, he called for reconciliation and responsible political conduct to safeguard democratic stability and national interests.

Reaffirming the PPP’s commitment to democracy, constitutional supremacy, political reconciliation and the protection of public rights, Humayun Khan said Pakistan and KP needed effective governance and tangible improvements in people’s lives rather than further instability and division.

He stressed that peace, development, employment opportunities and access to essential public services should remain the government’s top priorities, with public welfare guiding the use of provincial resources and the formulation of government policies.
