Dengue death prompts anti-mosquito drive in Landi Kotal

Khyber  –  The Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) has carried out anti-mosquito fogging in Bacha Maina, near the Torkham border, and other areas of Landi Kotal following the death of a local youth from dengue fever a day earlier.

The deceased was identified as Khurshid Shinwari, a resident of Bacha Maina. According to his relatives and health officials, he died of dengue fever on Thursday. Tehsil Municipal Officer (TMO) Abdul Waseem Khan said the fogging operation had been launched as a preventive measure following the death. The TMA carried out the activity in Landi Kotal Bazaar and densely populated areas to reduce the risk of further transmission, he added.

He urged residents to inform the TMA promptly if they identified areas at risk of a dengue outbreak so that preventive measures, including fogging, could be undertaken without delay.

Meanwhile, the in-charge of the dengue ward at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Landi Kotal said 17 dengue cases had been recorded in September, while seven new cases had been reported in October so far.

The patients belonged to different areas of Landi Kotal, including Khuga Khel, Pero Khel, Mukhtiar Khel and Zakha Khel, the official said.

Medical Superintendent DHQ Hospital Landi Kotal Dr Jameel Ahmad said a 14-bed isolation ward had been established at the hospital to provide appropriate treatment to dengue patients.
