ProZero Ghana trains instructors in modern composite boat building to strengthen Ghana’s maritime industry

Share on Twitter ProZero Ghana Limited has trained instructors from technical institutions in Tema and Takoradi in modern composite boat building as part of efforts to develop local expertise and strengthen Ghana’s maritime industry.

The training formed part of a Training of Trainers Programme, which ended with a closing ceremony and certificate presentation at the Sekondi Fishing Harbour in the Western Region.

The initiative was organised by ProZero Ghana Limited in partnership with the Ghana Employers’ Association, with support from the Confederation of Danish Industry, the Government of Denmark and the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET).

Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, said the programme would help equip Ghanaian youth with industry-relevant skills and create employment opportunities in the maritime sector.

Representing the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, he described the initiative as an important step towards Ghana’s industrial transformation and the development of technical and vocational education.

Dr. Apaak said the instructors who completed the programme had acquired the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to train the next generation of Ghanaian boat builders.

He explained that investing in instructors would allow the knowledge gained to reach hundreds and eventually thousands of learners across technical institutions, making skills development more sustainable.

According to him, Ghana’s maritime sector has significant potential in fisheries, marine transport, inland waterways and coastal economic activities, but unlocking these opportunities requires a skilled workforce capable of building, maintaining and engineering modern vessels.

He added that modern composite boat building could promote technology transfer, improve safety standards, strengthen local manufacturing capacity and create employment for young people.

The Deputy Minister called for stronger collaboration between educational institutions and industry to ensure that technical training responds to labour market needs and provides graduates with clear pathways into employment.

The Managing Director of ProZero Ghana Limited, Mr. Peter Amakye, described the programme as a landmark initiative for the company, Ghana’s technical and vocational education sector, and the future of the maritime industry.

He said the programme was designed to help Ghana develop the skills, expertise and human capital needed to build and maintain world-class vessels locally.

Mr. Amakye described the participants as pioneers who would transfer modern composite boat-building techniques to the next generation of Ghanaian technicians, artisans and innovators.

He noted that the knowledge acquired during the training would extend beyond the participants to classrooms, workshops and training centres, helping to establish a sustainable pipeline of skilled maritime professionals.

Mr. Amakye congratulated the instructors on their commitment, discipline and hard work, urging them to become ambassadors of modern boat-building education in Ghana.
