8 Men Who Reportedly Entered Rustenburg With Guns to Rob South Africans Exposed

Eight men aged between 26 and 38 have been arrested in Rustenburg, North West, following a police operation that allegedly foiled a planned armed business robbery. Three of the suspects sustained gunshot wounds during a confrontation with officers and remain under police guard in hospital.

The arrests followed an intelligence-driven operation in the early hours of Thursday, 17 September 2026, after police received information that a group of men was allegedly planning to rob a business in Rustenburg East.

The intelligence reportedly identified two vehicles suspected of being used in the planned operation: a bronze Volkswagen Polo and a silver Chevrolet.

Several specialised police units were mobilised to investigate the information and prevent the suspected robbery. The teams included the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit, Provincial Tracking Team, Rustenburg Crime Intelligence, Rustenburg Visible Policing Unit and Provincial Crime Intelligence Overt Operations.

During the operation, officers spotted two vehicles matching the descriptions provided by their intelligence sources.

Police reportedly approached the vehicles and identified themselves. However, the suspects allegedly drew firearms and opened fire on the officers, prompting police to return fire.

The confrontation resulted in the arrest of all eight suspects, three of whom sustained gunshot injuries. They were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment and remain under police supervision.

Two unmarked police vehicles were also damaged during the incident.

Police recovered several items believed to be connected to the investigation, including the Volkswagen Polo, the Chevrolet, three pistols, one rifle, ammunition and mobile phones.

The suspects are facing multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit business robbery, eight counts of attempted murder, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, malicious damage to property and defeating the ends of justice.

They were expected to appear before the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 21 September 2026.

North West Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Arthur Peter Adams praised the officers involved, highlighting the importance of cooperation between specialised units in combating serious crime.

The case underscores the dangers police officers face during operations targeting suspected armed criminals. The allegations against the accused remain to be tested in court.
