Npp Press Conference on Sammy Gyamfi Turns Dramatic as Party Demands his Immediate Removal

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has intensified its criticism of Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi, questioning his suitability to lead the institution.

The party held a press conference at its headquarters in Accra, led by National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B. He was accompanied by other senior party figures, including Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and Ofoase Ayirebi MP Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.

Addressing the media, Nana B sent a strong message to President John Dramani Mahama, insisting that Sammy Gyamfi was unfit to head GoldBod and should be removed from office.

He accused Gyamfi of displaying an extravagant lifestyle, citing a viral video in which the GoldBod boss was seen giving out US dollars. Nana B also questioned how Gyamfi could be using a 2025 Range Rover Autobiography only a few months after joining the government, arguing that such displays showed insensitivity towards the economic difficulties facing ordinary Ghanaians.

The NPP called for Gyamfi’s immediate dismissal and urged the Office of the Special Prosecutor and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to investigate him, arrest him where warranted and prosecute him if the evidence supports criminal charges. The party maintained that the alleged financial losses at GoldBod required accountability from those responsible.

The opposition party further insisted that if Gyamfi could not effectively manage the institution, he should be removed without delay. It alleged that GoldBod had incurred losses amounting to GH¢22 billion and demanded that the individuals responsible be held accountable.

The press conference triggered widespread reactions on social media, with Ghanaians expressing differing views on the NPP’s allegations.

Some critics argued that the NPP lacked the moral authority to accuse others of financial mismanagement, pointing to the party’s defence of losses associated with the Gold-for-Oil programme during its time in government.

Meanwhile, some NPP supporters praised Nana B for his remarks, agreeing with his criticism of Gyamfi and calling for his removal from office.

However, NDC supporters dismissed the allegations as political propaganda, arguing that reports from the Auditor-General indicated that GoldBod had recorded a surplus rather than the losses claimed by the opposition. They urged the NPP to address its own internal challenges instead of targeting Sammy Gyamfi.
