Man D.A. says was wrongly convicted moves to Nashville prison

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Andrew Hayes, a man who local prosecutors say may have served years for a murder he didn’t commit, appeared in court on Friday morning.

While in court, the judge asked Hayes if he wanted to stay, and he said yes.

However, the judge pointed out that the jail was violent and that someone had been stabbed. At this time, Hayes agreed to be moved to another facility after the judge made that point.

Hayes will remain in custody during this time and will now be moved to a prison in Nashville.

His case was reset to November 6 at 9 a.m.

Hayes was convicted in the 2007 murder of Danny Harris. He says he was falsely accused of the murder during a 27-hour interrogation. According to Hayes testimony, he falsely confessed to the crime because he just wanted to “get it over with.”

“Being interrogated like that for 27 hours, it was very rough. I just wanted to get it over with,” he said.
