Meet the Father of Sammy Gyamfi and What He is Known For in Ghana
Sammy Gyamfi has emerged as one of the key personalities involved in Ghana’s efforts to transform the gold industry. Since being appointed Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) by President John Dramani Mahama in January 2025, he has been involved in the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board, or GoldBod, which is intended to bring greater structure and modernisation to the country’s gold sector.
Gyamfi is already a familiar name in Ghana because of his political career and his work as a leading communicator for the National Democratic Congress. However, his father, Nana Kofi Genfi, has maintained a much lower profile despite playing an important role in his son’s upbringing.
Genfi is a businessman from Wamfie in Ghana’s Bono Region. He has generally remained outside the public spotlight, but his commitment to education and discipline is regarded as an important influence on Gyamfi’s development.
People who know the family have linked Gyamfi’s determination, work ethic and sense of responsibility to the values he learned from his father. Over the years, Gyamfi went on to establish himself as a lawyer and became one of the most outspoken figures defending the NDC and its policies.
His current assignment at PMMC places him at the centre of efforts to improve the regulation of Ghana’s small-scale gold mining and trading sector. With his legal knowledge and experience in public policy and politics, Gyamfi is expected to remain a significant figure in the country’s gold-sector reforms.
