Patekar died at the age of 75 in Goa on Thursday, October 8, 2026, with reports indicating that he suffered a suspected cardiac arrest. His son, Malhar Patekar, confirmed his death.

While generations of movie lovers remember him for powerful performances in films such as Krantiveer, Parinda and Welcome, younger internet users also know him as the man behind some of social media’s most recognizable reaction memes.

One particularly memorable clip shows Patekar taking a sip of his drink before suddenly reacting to something amusing, spitting the drink out and bursting into uncontrollable laughter.

The scene became a popular reaction template, used online whenever someone encounters something so shocking or hilarious that they can barely contain their laughter.

Another fan favourite comes from Welcome, in which Patekar plays Uday Shetty, a gangster whose dramatic expressions, sharp dialogue and unexpected bursts of laughter became meme material long after the film’s release.

His expressions have since found a second life across social media platforms, appearing in posts, videos and comment sections to capture everything from disbelief to uncontrollable laughter.

Now, following news of his death, these familiar clips carry a different meaning for fans who have spent years sharing and laughing at his memorable moments.
