Goa Police begin inquiry Into Nana Patekar’s death
Goa Police have registered an unnatural death case following the death of veteran Indian actor Nana Patekar, with an investigation underway to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
The case was registered by Panaji Police under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), according to police records cited by Indian media.
The records state that Patekar, reported to be 76, was brought dead to the casualty ward of Manipal Hospital in Bambolim from his residence at Ocean Park in Dona Paula.
The enquiry is being led by Police Sub-Inspector Nitin Naik. Police have not disclosed further details at this stage.
Patekar died on October 8 after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest at his Goa residence. Reports said he experienced severe chest pain and was found unconscious, prompting a medical team to respond before he was taken to hospital.
Dr Shekhar Salkar, head of the oncology department at Manipal Hospital, said medical staff attempted to restore the actor’s heartbeat through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for 45 minutes, but were unable to revive him.
A medico-legal case was registered, and a post-mortem examination was conducted to help establish the cause of death.
The registration of an unnatural death case is a procedural step in the investigation and does not, by itself, establish that foul play was involved. Police have not announced any findings from their enquiry.
Patekar was in Goa to attend an event and was last seen publicly at a function in Dona Paula on October 4, according to reports citing the Press Trust of India.
He reportedly attended the Samraat Club International installation ceremony, with videos from the event subsequently circulating on social media.
The veteran actor’s recent film appearances included O’ Romeo, released in February 2026, as well as Subedaar, Housefull 5 and Vanvaas. He also appeared in filmmaker Prakash Jha’s Sankalp.
