Junet Mohamed Alleges What Uhuru Kenyatta Expected to Happen to Ruto’s Government
Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed has taken a swipe at retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, claiming the former head of state is unhappy with political developments under President William Ruto’s administration.
The ODM National Assembly Minority Leader revisited the 2022 General Election, when the Azimio la Umoja coalition lost to Kenya Kwanza. He recalled how some leaders questioned whether Ruto’s administration would survive the economic challenges facing Kenya.
According to Junet, Uhuru had predicted that the Kenya Kwanza government would encounter serious economic difficulties and collapse within three months. The legislator claimed the former president expected the administration to struggle with the country’s growing public debt.
Junet admitted that he initially believed the prediction following Azimio’s defeat. He said he spent the following months watching events unfold, expecting the government to experience financial difficulties that could threaten its survival.
However, the Suna East MP argued that the expected economic collapse never happened. He maintained that Ruto’s administration continued operating despite the challenges, while fiscal measures helped stabilise the Kenyan shilling and manage debt obligations.
Junet attributed the administration’s continued survival to decisions made by the government and political cooperation between different factions. He argued that the broad-based government arrangement had helped ease political tensions and support efforts to address economic challenges.
The legislator further suggested that Uhuru was uncomfortable with the government’s progress. He implied that the retired president was unhappy watching Ruto establish political stability despite earlier predictions that his administration would struggle to remain in power.
Junet also defended ODM’s decision to cooperate with Ruto’s administration, presenting the arrangement as an effort to promote national unity. He urged critics to accept the current political situation instead of questioning the government’s continued existence.
