Ruto Questions El Niño Prediction: Gachagua Plan Splits Opposition on Ruto Challenger & Wamuchomba Explains UDA Exit

Here are some of the top news making headlines on the Opera News App today:

President William Ruto has cast doubt on the weatherman’s prediction that El Niño will be experienced in the country.

Speaking at the Agriculture and Food Security Summit on Thursday, October 8, Ruto wondered why the rain has not fallen in the country, yet it is almost mid-October.

He argued that farmers across the country prepared their farms in anticipation of the rains, yet the predicted El Niño rains are nowhere to be seen.

The opposition’s plan to unite and defeat President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election is facing fresh challenges, with mistrust among its leaders and fears of State interference threatening to weaken the coalition.

The divisions became clear after a high profile strategic retreat at Windsor ended prematurely before the leaders could address key questions about their political future.

The meeting exposed differences among the principals, raising concerns about whether they can agree on a common presidential candidate.

In a major political shift within the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition, Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has officially resigned from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Speaking during a press conference at Parliament buildings on Thursday, the lawmaker announced that she will defend her parliamentary seat on a different political platform during the next general election.

Wamuchomba accused President William Ruto’s administration of practicing double speak and selectively applying the law, particularly regarding inflammatory statements and tribal attacks. She noted that while authorities arrested lower-ranking lawmakers for alleged hate speech, they failed to hold senior government figures to the same standard.
