The Oba of Benin Cannot Even Qualify As A Palace Chief Before Me In My Palace – Dokubo
In a recent video shared on Facebook, on Thursday, October 8, 2026, Niger Delta activist and traditional ruler, Asari Dokubo, spoke about traditional leadership and the standards he believes should apply within a palace.
During the discussion, Dokubo compared traditional institutions and spoke about the requirements he believes individuals must meet before they can occupy certain positions within a palace. He specifically made a remark concerning the Oba of Benin and his own traditional institution.
Speaking during the video, Dokubo stated, “The Oba of Benin cannot even qualify as a palace chief before me in my palace.” He made the statement while explaining his position on traditional titles and the qualifications required within his own palace.
According to Dokubo, traditional institutions have their own structures, customs and standards that determine the positions individuals can occupy. He used his account to explain the standards he believes should be applied within his palace.
The traditional ruler further explained that the qualifications for becoming a palace chief should be considered within the context of the customs and structure of the particular traditional institution. He made the comparison while discussing his views on traditional authority and leadership.
Dokubo’s comments come as part of his broader discussion of traditional institutions, leadership structures and the standards he believes should guide positions within a palace.
He concluded by maintaining that, based on the standards he applies within his own palace, the Oba of Benin would not qualify to become a palace chief.
