29-year-old footballer Mokete “Shaune” Mogaila has been convicted of charges linked to a fatal car crash in 2024.

A nine-year-old child died in the accident.

Mogaila, who played for Sekhukhune United, appeared in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court today.

He admitted to reckless driving, fleeing the scene of the accident, and culpable homicide.

Mogaila is set to be sentenced next month.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlole said,

β€œThe conviction follows a fatal collision on Andrew Mapheto Road in Tembisa. On 30 October 2024, when Mogaila’s vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle. The crash claimed the life of 9-year-old Gomolemo Mavimbela and left her mother and 13-year-old brother seriously injured.”
