MK Party MP David Skosana Ambushed on N4 — Gunmen Forced Weapons Through Car Window
A tense incident on the N4 highway has reportedly left uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party Member of Parliament David Skosana at the centre of a police investigation after armed men allegedly attempted to intercept his vehicle in what is being treated as a possible assassination attempt.
According to reports, Skosana was travelling alone in an unmarked white Volkswagen Polo on Monday night after dismissing his security escort for the evening. Another vehicle allegedly approached his car, with armed suspects reportedly positioning themselves alongside the Polo and pointing firearms through its rear windows.
The suspects allegedly ordered Skosana to stop and pull over. However, the lawmaker reportedly refused to comply and instead accelerated away from the scene, eventually reaching a place of safety. No shots were reportedly fired and there have been no confirmed reports of injuries.
The South African Police Service has opened a case in connection with the incident. Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo reportedly confirmed that the matter had been registered and that detectives were pursuing leads. The reported involvement of the Hawks has also heightened attention surrounding the case because of Skosana’s position as a Member of Parliament.
Authorities have not yet publicly disclosed the precise location of the alleged confrontation, the number of suspects involved or whether anyone has been arrested. Investigators are expected to examine whether the attackers deliberately targeted Skosana and whether they knew he would be travelling without his normal security detail.
There have also been unconfirmed reports that a shaken man later arrived at a filling station near the highway and asked to use a telephone. However, authorities have not confirmed that the man was Skosana.
The alleged attack has renewed concerns about the safety of public representatives, particularly when travelling without protection. Investigators will now focus on identifying the suspects, establishing a possible motive and determining whether information about Skosana’s movements was compromised.
No arrests have been confirmed, and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
