Petrol price rises to Rs398.96 per litre; diesel to Rs395.72

The federal government raised on Thursday the petrol and high-speed diesel prices again under the daily petroleum pricing mechanism, with the new rates taking effect from October 9 (Friday).

Petrol has been increased by Rs2.31 per litre, taking its price to Rs398.96 per litre. The price of high-speed diesel has risen by Rs0.78 per litre, with the new rate fixed at Rs395.72 per litre.

The Petroleum Division said the prices were linked to petrol and diesel rates in the international market. The latest changes were made in line with movements in global markets and other costs, according to an official statement.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) issued the notification for the revised prices, which will apply from October 9.

A day earlier, on Wednesday, the government had raised petrol prices by Rs1.82 per litre while cutting the price of high-speed diesel by 91 paisas under the daily pricing mechanism.

Petrol had then been fixed at Rs396.65 per litre, while high-speed diesel was reduced to Rs394.94 per litre. The revised rates took effect from October 8.
