Govt Lists Areas To Expect Heavy Downpour Tomorrow, Check Of Your Region is Affected

The Kenya Meteorological Department has released a 24-hour weather advisory warning of increased rainfall across several parts of the country.

Residents in the affected areas have been urged to remain alert as widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected over the coming day.

According to the latest forecast, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley, the Highlands East of the Rift Valley and the Coastal strip are among the areas likely to experience notable rainfall.

Several counties in Central, Western, Nyanza and the Rift Valley regions face a higher likelihood of scattered afternoon showers, with some areas expected to receive isolated heavy thunderstorms.

Along the Coast, meteorologists have forecast periods of heavy rainfall, particularly during the morning and evening hours.

The Met Department attributed the changing conditions to active weather systems affecting the East African coast and inland highland areas. The increased moisture is also signaling the onset of the expected short-rains season in various parts of the country.

Besides the rainfall, residents have been warned to prepare for strong winds, poor visibility and possible flash floods, especially in low-lying areas and urban locations with inadequate drainage.

Disaster management authorities have advised motorists to exercise caution on wet roads and avoid attempting to drive through flooded sections.

Farmers in areas receiving the early rains have welcomed the change in weather, with many using the opportunity to begin land preparation and planting activities.

Meanwhile, local authorities are monitoring areas considered vulnerable to mudslides, flooding and storm-water runoff.
