“I Chose My Wife Over Money” Businessman Breaks Silence On MySol Fallout

A businessman breaks Three Years of Quiet Regarding the Shock Mining Conflict

Benjy Maponya, a businessman from the North West, has spoken out for the first time in three years regarding a contentious business dispute involving Solomon “Solly” Soka Madibela of MySol Holdings, a former friend and business partner.

In an in-depth narrative released on October 7, 2026, Maponya detailed what he considers to be a devastating betrayal that allegedly cost him his home, income, business interests, and financial stability.

After being hired by Samancor alongside VJ Coal for an opencast project at Buffels West, Maponya asserts that he was the original founder of the N4 Cluster mining operation. He claims that after VJ Coal was liquidated, he asked Madibela for technical assistance, and the two went on to form a joint venture.

According to Maponya, they had a very close relationship.

We used to split a 2 kg portion of chicken. I used to lend him my vehicle. He described the trust he once had in Madibela, saying, “We were like brothers.

However, Maponya claims that disagreements over payments and how their business arrangement operated caused the relationship to deteriorate.

He says he was eventually kicked out of the company and given a list of requirements related to his ongoing payments. He claims, among other things, that he was forced to divorce his wife, move from Hartbeespoort to Majakaneng, discontinue soccer competitions and community projects, and delete his Facebook account.

Additionally, Maponya claims that after he declined to go to a sangoma with Madibela, the conflict grew more heated.

He claims that after refusing the demands, he was locked out of the company’s premises.

Maponya claims that Madibela’s company allegedly absorbed the mining tender after it was later re-advertised. He insists that Samancor has records that can resolve the contractual dispute and maintains that an agreement was meant to cover the duration of the mining operation.

There were reportedly serious financial repercussions.

According to Maponya, he paid roughly R115,000 a month for a property in Hartbeespoort that he had bought for about R2.1 million. He claims he was unable to continue making the payments after allegedly being unemployed for nine months, at which point he gave up the property.

Later, he and his spouse relocated to Majakaneng, where they constructed a simple three-room building on family land.

Maponya stated, “I cannot challenge it because I cannot afford court,” clarifying that he decided to make a fresh start with his spouse instead of continuing to pursue wealth at all costs.

The businessman claims that despite having previously turned down requests for interviews from prominent broadcasters, he has now made the decision to speak out in public following what he characterizes as attempts to silence and humiliate him.

In addition, Maponya makes separate accusations regarding an unidentified murder case and asserts that he has been the target of attempts to frame him using leaked voice notes and false accusations of rape. These assertions have not been independently verified.

He recalls an incident three years ago in which he claims that “fake police” were sent to his home to intimidate his wife, and he says he fears for the safety of his family.
