Total Amount of Money Uhuru Donated To Families Of Catholic Pilgrims Who Died In A Road Accident

UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar has extended financial support to the families of 17 Catholic pilgrims who died in a tragic road accident near Salama in Makueni County.

Omar visited St. Mathias Mulumba Catholic Parish in Mikindani, Mombasa County, where he met the bereaved families and joined members of the church in mourning the victims.

The pilgrims were reportedly travelling from Mombasa to Subukia National Shrine in Nakuru County to attend the National Prayer Day when the fatal accident occurred on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

During his visit, Omar presented KSh500,000 to the parish priest and requested that the entire amount be given to the affected families. The donation is intended to assist relatives with some of the immediate financial needs arising from the tragedy.

Omar described the incident as a national tragedy and expressed his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. He also promised to continue remembering the victims and honouring their memory every year.

The UDA official further encouraged Christians to keep the deceased and their families in prayer as they navigate the difficult period.

His contribution came shortly after Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i also visited the parish to condole with the bereaved families. Matiang’i announced a total contribution of KSh1 million, with KSh500,000 coming from him and another KSh500,000 donated by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The accident has continued to attract widespread concern, with religious and political leaders offering condolences and support to the affected families.

Mombasa Archbishop Martin Kivuva Musonde urged the faithful to continue praying for the victims and their relatives as preparations to lay the deceased to rest continue.

The financial contributions are expected to provide some relief to the families during the challenging period.
