Family Member Reveals Wicknell was to Travel with His 2 Children in Helicopter that Killed Him

The late businessman Wicknell Chivayo had intended to travel with his two children on the helicopter that crashed and killed him, a family uncle has revealed.

The uncle said Chivayo planned to take his son, John Chenjera, and daughter, Atarah Minana, on the trip to Gandami village.

One of the children reportedly rushed home from school, eager to join their father.

Chivayo then waited for the second child to arrive.

The uncle said he grew impatient as the minutes passed.

According to the account, the tycoon decided that the family should leave without the children.

He reportedly said he would take them next time, since they often travel to the village.

That quick decision is what kept the two children off the flight.

The helicopter later crashed, killing Chivayo, his wife, Lucy Muteke, and three other people.

Relatives and others who were present that day have since told the family they are shocked and frightened by how narrowly the children escaped.

The uncle said they believe God has a plan for the children, who would otherwise have died in the accident.

His account has stirred deep emotion online, with many people reflecting on how differently the tragedy could have unfolded.

Chivayo and Lucy were buried on Thursday, October 8, at Sahwira Glen Forest Memorial Park in Harare.
