‘The Plane Was Supposed To Crash Inside Our Compound But The Pilot Directed It To The Bush’ -Edema

According to Channels TV, Igbokoda resident and eyewitness Igbekele Edema has praised the pilot of the Nigerian Air Force ATR 42 aircraft for his actions in the final moments before the crash, saying the pilot may have prevented a much greater loss of life by steering the aircraft away from a residential area.

Edema, who spoke about the incident, said residents were shocked by the crash but believed the pilot’s decision to direct the aircraft toward a bushy area helped prevent it from hitting homes and people on the ground.

“That we are alive today is by the hand of God, and we are equally surprised as well. If not for the pilot, this accident would have been more fatal than this. The plane was supposed to crash inside our compound, but the pilot directed it to the bush,” Edema said.

According to the eyewitness, the crash happened suddenly and created a frightening scene for people in the area. He said those who witnessed the incident saw a large amount of water rise into the air when the aircraft struck the ground before the plane became submerged.

Edema also described how quickly the situation became dangerous after the impact. He said flames soon engulfed the aircraft, making it extremely difficult for people nearby to approach the wreckage or attempt an immediate rescue.

The account has added to the concerns surrounding the incident, as residents who witnessed the crash were left to deal with the shock of seeing the aircraft go down close to their community.
