OpenAIās new interface adds interactive charts, diagrams, calculators
ChatGPT is becoming more visual with the launch of a new interface called Intelligent UI, which OpenAI says will make complex topics easier to understand through interactive visuals.
The feature, rolling out alongside the companyās new GPT-6 model, adds elements such as tappable buttons, customised calculators, interactive charts, editable graphs and diagrams directly into conversations.
OpenAI says the aim is to help users understand complex subjects more easily, while making ChatGPT more accessible and useful for everyday tasks.
During a briefing with journalists, OpenAI product manager Aarush Selvan said ChatGPT had āpredominantly been a text-based interfaceā, but argued that many tasks are better served by more than written answers.
Selvan demonstrated the feature by asking ChatGPT to explain how an airplane wing generates lift. The chatbot produced several diagrams illustrating the principles behind lift and how aircraft remain airborne.
OpenAI also demonstrated Intelligent UI for a range of practical uses, including recipe visuals, bicycle mechanics diagrams, hiking maps and personal savings calculators.
The company said these elements are designed to let users interact directly with information rather than simply read a static explanation.
For example, a user planning a trip could work with a map, while someone managing personal finances could adjust figures in a customised calculator.
OpenAI said Intelligent UI will be customisable, allowing users who prefer traditional text-based responses to reduce the amount of visual content in conversations.
The feature is rolling out globally with GPT-6 for Pro, Plus, Business and Enterprise users. It will become available on Thursday for users on Free and Go plans.
