Inside Lucy Chivayo’s Pricey Mercedes-Style Designer Caskets Featuring Grilles and Gold [PHOTOS]
The family of late Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has announced key details surrounding his burial, including the date and venue, while dismissing rumours circulating on social media about the funeral arrangements.
Family spokesperson Herbert Chivhayo on Monday, October 5, 2026, said forensic and DNA processes had been completed, with the family now waiting to collect the burial orders.
“So far we have received the post-mortem report (PND). What is left now is the burial orders. So far the forensics and DNA were completed yesterday,” Herbert said during an interview.
“Do they also have number plates?” a netizen asked.
Wicknell Chivayo and his wife Lucy Muteke are set for a final farewell unlike any other after photos of their custom-designed caskets emerged.
The luxury-inspired coffins feature car-style grilles, personalised plates and gold detailing, with Lucy’s resembling a Mercedes-Maybach.
The highly detailed memorials were surrounded by elaborate displays of white roses and candles before the couple’s burial at Glen Forest Memorial Park. While custom car-shaped coffins have a long history globally—ranging from the famous fantasy coffins of Ghana to specialty enthusiast brands like Cruisin Caskets—this specific display highlighted a growing regional demand for bespoke, high-profile funeral luxury.
The couple will be buried side-by-side in Harare on Thursday, October 8.
