Power consumers to pay extra Rs1.11 per unit in Oct bills

ISLAMABAD  –  The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has allowed the country’s power distribution companies (DISCOs) to charge an additional Rs1.11 per unit from electricity consumers in their October 2026 bills. In its decision on the petition of the Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guarantee for tariff increase on account of monthly Fuel Charge Adjustment for the month of August, NEPRA has partially rejected the demand for Rs 1.7267 per unit increase.

The power regulator approved an FCA of Rs1.1086/unit, below the Rs1.7267/unit initially claimed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guarantee. NEPRA said the adjustment reflects the difference between the actual fuel cost of Rs8.2084/unit and the reference cost of Rs7.0998/unit. The charge will apply to consumers of all categories served by DISCOs and K-Electric, except lifeline consumers, electric-vehicle charging stations and prepaid electricity consumers who opted for prepaid tariffs. It will also apply to consumption under the incremental consumption package. The adjustment will be reflected in October 2026 billing, based on electricity units consumed in August. Bills issued before the decision’s notification may have the adjustment applied in the following month. NEPRA also noted that consumers had already received negative adjustments linked to lower RLNG prices in earlier months. It said further adjustments would be incorporated into subsequent FCA periods where required. Power generation in August was 3.28% higher than the reference tariff estimate, with a major shift in the generation mix – output from imported coal more than doubled, while nuclear and hydel generation remained well below projected levels.
