Ten die after taxi loses control and crashes into tree in Hammarsdale

The crash happened near the Hibiscus Hospital when the taxi driver lost control while negotiating a bend and crashed into a tree, according to preliminary information from the Road Traffic Inspectorate.

KwaZulu-Natal transport and human settlements MEC Siboniso Duma said he was saddened by the loss of life, and extended his condolences to the victims’ families.

Duma has assigned a road safety team to work with the local taxi association to locate and notify the families of those who died.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are still being established.
