PRA claims 31pc rise in first-quarter revenue collection
LAHORE – The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has claimed a 31 per cent increase in revenue collection during the first quarter of the current fiscal year, saying it collected a record Rs87 billion compared with Rs66.3 billion during the corresponding period last year. The record quarterly collection was reviewed at a meeting on annual revenue targets chaired by PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra, which examined sector-wise revenue performance, tax returns and the performance of officers. Mr Sipra directed officials to ensure comprehensive scrutiny of the records of entities suspected of tax fraud and evasion and expand action against tax embezzlement and the issuance of fake receipts. He said efforts to broaden the tax base and strengthen digital monitoring, undertaken on the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, were producing positive results. The chairman said implementation of the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (e-IMS), along with measures to improve tax compliance, had also contributed to the growth in revenue collection. He directed officials to further strengthen monitoring and enforcement mechanisms to curb tax evasion and ensure that entities involved in fraudulent practices were brought under scrutiny.
