‘Paul Mackenzie turned into a snake’: Shakahola witness makes startling claim in court

Listen Dan Mackenzie, the son of Paul Mackenzie, said he reported the matter to police after learning that the children were still following religious teachings that involved fasting as a way of attaining heaven.

The mother of Shakahola and Kwa Binzaro main suspect Paul Mackenzie has been detained by detectives in Malindi after eight grandchildren allegedly stayed out of school and fasted for three months. Anastasia Mwele was picked up by Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers led by Homicide boss Martin Nyuguto at her home in Furunzi together with the children, aged between six and 14. They were taken to Malindi Police Station, where they were held as detectives investigated the circumstances surrounding the children’s prolonged absence from school and alleged fasting. That is why I went to make a report,” he said. Dan said the children had remained out of school and were involved in the fasting practice for about three months, prompting him to seek police intervention.
