Good News as EOCO Release Top NPP Guru

Former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame, who represents former National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) Chief Executive Officer Hanan Abdul-Wahab, has welcomed the return of items seized from his client by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

The items, which include cash, mobile phones and a laptop, were taken into custody following the arrest and prosecution of Hanan Abdul-Wahab and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, over allegations including stealing, causing financial loss to the state and money laundering. Both accused persons have denied the charges.

At a hearing on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, Mr Dame asked the court to dismiss an application he had previously filed seeking an order compelling EOCO to return the seized property.

He informed the court that his client had been invited to EOCO’s offices on Monday, October 5, where most of the items were handed back. However, one mobile phone, an accessory linked to another phone and some funds were reportedly still outstanding.

Mr Dame also requested additional time for the defence team to examine the electronic devices, arguing that they could contain information crucial to the preparation of the case.

Deputy Attorney-General Dr Justice Srem-Sai opposed the request, arguing that the prosecution was ready to begin presenting its evidence and that the defence had already had sufficient time to examine the materials returned to them.

Counsel for Faiza Seidu Wuni, Augustine Obour, supported Mr Dame’s position while expressing concern over whether any information had been lost from the phones during the period they remained in EOCO’s possession.

Justice Francis Apongabuno Achibonga ruled that the defence should be allowed adequate time to inspect the devices. He noted that although the court had ordered the release of the items in May, compliance only occurred in October.

The court subsequently struck out Mr Dame’s application and adjourned the case to October 20, 2026, to give the defence time to review the returned devices.

Speaking after the proceedings, Mr Dame said he was satisfied that EOCO had finally complied with the court’s directive.

He maintained that the trial should not commence until all the seized property covered by the court’s order had been fully released.
