Telugu Language, Literature Have Immeasurable Value, Says Tejaswi
Vijayawada:Telugu language and literature have immeasurable value and power to mould individuals into better human beings, asserted AP Creativity and Culture Commission chairperson Tejaswi Podapati on Wednesday.
She inaugurated the three-day Amaravati Literature Festival at SRM University β AP in Amaravati. The event brought together poets, writers, university students, and literature enthusiasts from several states of India.
Podapati said the younger generation is increasingly overlooking the value of the written word in the digital age. She stressed the need to rediscover the beauty of literature and urged Telugu students not to neglect their mother tongue while developing an interest in foreign languages.
The commission chairperson said they are working on plans to take Telugu language and literature to a global audience. She appreciated SRM Universityβs efforts to promote Telugu literature at the national level.
In this regard, Podapati announced that the AP Creativity and Culture Commission would organise literary festivals in Vijayawada from October 11 to October 20. More than 10 chief ministers would attend the events, she disclosed.
Guntur district collector C.M. Saikanth Varma said reading books could boost self-confidence and improve communication skills. He appreciated SRM University for organising the Amaravati Literature Festival and showcasing the significance of Amaravati to the world.
SRM University vice-chancellor Prof. Ch. Satish Kumar said the festival aims to bring poets and writers representing different languages and literary traditions onto a common platform. He announced that two literary awards at the state and the national levels would be instituted from next year. A special jury would be constituted to ensure a fair selection process.
Tamil Nadu-based writer Mini Krishnan spoke about the significance of literary festivals and the impact of literature on society.
SRM University dean Dr. Vishnupath and festival conveners Dr. Argabasu and Dr. Shayanthan Tagore addressed the gathering.
More than 50 poets, writers, and literature enthusiasts from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, and West Bengal are participating in the three-day Amaravati Literature Festival.
Book exhibitions featuring works in different languages at the festival are attracting many visitors, who are interacting with authors and literary personalities.
