Heavy Rain Expected In Most Parts of Kenya Starting on This Date as Kenya Met Issues a Warning
Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a new five-day weather forecast, warning residents in several parts of the country to prepare for rainfall between Thursday, October 8 and Monday, October 12, 2026.
The latest forecast indicates that light to moderate rainfall will affect various counties, with some areas expected to experience afternoon showers accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Nairobi is among the areas listed in the forecast, with residents expected to experience light morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers.
Several counties in Western Kenya are also expected to record rainfall during the period. Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and Siaya are among the areas where sunny morning conditions could give way to afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
In the Rift Valley, residents in counties including Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Baringo, Laikipia and Nakuru have also been advised to remain alert as rainfall is expected mainly during the afternoon. Some areas could experience thunderstorms alongside the showers.
The forecast also covers parts of Central Kenya, the South Eastern region, the Coast, northern and north-eastern parts of the country. Mombasa and Kwale are among the coastal counties expected to receive light to moderate rainfall during the forecast period.
The latest outlook comes as Kenya enters the October-December short-rains season, which the meteorological department expects to bring enhanced rainfall across much of the country.
Residents have been encouraged to keep monitoring official weather updates, particularly in areas vulnerable to flooding, poor drainage and storm-related disruptions.
The five-day forecast is important for farmers, motorists, traders and families planning outdoor activities, as weather conditions may change quickly.
