YSRC Names Anam Vijay Kumar Reddy As Its Nellore Mayor Candidate

Opposition YSRC has named Anam Vijay Kumar Reddy as its candidate for the post of Nellore Municipal Corporation mayor, subject to the post being reserved for OC-General category.

YSRC Nellore district president and former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy and MLC Parvatareddy Chandrasekhar Reddy announced his candidature at the party central office in Tadepalli on Wednesday.

Govardhan Reddy said following former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s direction to give priority in local body elections to loyalists who stood by the party during difficult times, YSRCP has decided to field a strong candidate if the mayor’s post in Nellore is reserved for OC-General,

The YSRC leaders referred to Anam family’s association with the Nellore Municipal Corporation and Vijay Kumar Reddy’s experience in holding key positions.

MLC Chandrasekhar Reddy described Vijay Kumar Reddy as a candidate who has raised public issues and can respond to the concerns of traders, employees, educated sections, and intellectuals. He said the party would coordinate its efforts across Nellore city and rural constituencies to ensure the YSRC candidate’s victory.

Though the state government has not finalised reservations in polls to various corporations and municipalities, Vijay Kumar Reddy said he is ready to contest as an OC-General mayoral candidate from Nellore. The nominee thanked the YSRC president for giving him the opportunity to contest for the prestigious post. He said he would work according to the party president’s directions and serve the people as YSRC representative.

Former minister Govardhan Reddy alleged that the government is creating hurdles for opposition candidates through delays in issuing caste certificates and NOCs. In addition, it is using cases, rowdy sheets, and PD Act against strong opposition leaders who might enter the fray in local body elections.

The YSRC leader expressed confidence that the YSRC would perform well in Nellore district despite the obstacles
