Prepare for Heavy Rains for the Next Five-Days if You Live in the Following Parts of the Country
The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a fresh five-day weather forecast warning of rainfall and changing weather conditions across several parts of the country as the October to December Short Rains season continues.
The forecast covers Thursday, October 8, to Monday, October 12, with different regions expected to experience varying rainfall patterns during the period. KMD’s forecast provides separate expectations for morning, afternoon and night conditions, allowing residents to prepare for changing weather throughout the five days.
Morning rains accompanied by afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected over the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley.
The affected areas include Baringo, Bomet, Bungoma, Elgeyo Marakwet, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Kericho, Kisii, Kisumu, Migori, Nakuru, Nandi, Narok, Nyamira, Siaya, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Vihiga and West Pokot counties.
Western parts are expected to experience sunny intervals in the morning before showers develop later in the day, with thunderstorms possible in some locations.
Evening and night showers are expected over most of these parts during the forecast period, meaning residents should remain prepared for wet conditions beyond the afternoon hours.
Cold and cloudy conditions with morning rains giving rise to sunny intervals are expected over the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County.
The areas include Embu, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri and Tharaka-Nithi counties. Nairobi is expected to experience light morning rains during the period, with afternoon showers also possible on some days.
The South Eastern Lowlands are also expected to receive rainfall, with Kajiado, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni and parts of Taita Taveta among the areas likely to experience wet conditions.
Along the Coast, rainfall is expected in Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River and Lamu counties, with showers occurring at different times of the day.
KMD has urged members of the public to continue following daily weather updates because rainfall intensity and distribution can change during the forecast period.
The department’s short-range forecasts are intended to help households, farmers, motorists and other sectors plan for changing weather conditions.
