Today’s Headlines:Tinubu Deserves Second Term-First Lady, Aregbesola Calls Tinubu Emilokan Despotism

The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed support for President Bola Tinubu seeking another term in office, saying his administration’s economic policies are beginning to deliver results that Nigerians can see.

She made the position known on Monday in Abuja during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Women Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to her, measures introduced by the administration have progressed beyond policy announcements and are beginning to show signs of economic recovery and stability.

Oluremi Tinubu therefore argued that the progress recorded so far deserves to be sustained through continued support for the President. The event also formally brought APC women leaders and supporters into the party’s preparations for the 2027 presidential campaign.

Former Osun State Governor and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s popular “Emilokan” expression, describing the political idea behind it as a form of despotism.

Aregbesola argued that the phrase goes beyond the simple idea of claiming that it is one’s turn to occupy a political position. He suggested that it could be interpreted as an attempt to establish an unquestionable entitlement to political power and influence over a particular political space.

With political activities already intensifying ahead of the 2027 elections, the former governor called on Nigerians to take advantage of the democratic process to resist what he described as an assault on democratic principles. His remarks have since generated strong reactions, particularly following the circulation of a video containing his comments.

The Chairman of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Dr Joshua Sunday Riti, has said Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s move from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress is already producing positive outcomes for the state.

Riti made the comment on Wednesday while receiving stakeholders from Kwall community at the council secretariat. He described Mutfwang’s decision to join the ruling party as a calculated political move that, in his view, could help Plateau secure greater benefits from the Federal Government.

The council chairman said the governor’s defection in December 2025 had been followed by increased federal attention and presence in the state. He commended Mutfwang for what he described as a bold decision, expressing optimism that the move would continue to bring additional opportunities and development to Plateau.

Former Barcelona and Chelsea forward Pedro RodrĂguez has announced his retirement from professional football after a career filled with major trophies at club and international level.

The Spanish player announced the decision in an emotional message shared on his X account on Wednesday. Pedro said he had reached a point where he felt ready to leave professional football behind and begin a different chapter of his life.

During his illustrious career, Pedro won several major honours with Barcelona, Chelsea and the Spanish national team. His retirement brings to a close a football journey that established him as one of Spain’s notable players of his generation.
