The Kenyan government broke its quiet today, sending a strong message to Kenyans residing in various local and regional areas.
The Kenyan government declared today, August 30, 2026, that the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) will purposefully implement new rules to simplify the road transport industry.
According to the KENHA Draft Regulations 2024, any Kenyan driver of a vehicle with a gross weight of 3,500 kilogrammes who escapes or just ignores a weighing station will face a Ksh400,000 fine.
The Kenyan government has also ruled that Kenyans who drive the designated class of motor vehicles and flee weighing stations would face a two-year prison sentence if found guilty.
The Kenyan government further stated that any Kenyan national caught driving an overloaded vehicle will face a Ksh400,000 fine or two years in prison.
According to the Kenyan government, the new rule aims to prevent cars from being overloaded and will force all cars weighing more than 3,500 kg to undergo an axle weight test to ensure they are carrying the allowable amount of weight.
