DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigation indicated that the accused were allegedly linked to foreign-based arms smugglers and were procuring illegal weapons for further distribution among criminal elements in the region. He said investigators had also found links with other associates involved in the illegal arms supply network.

The DGP said further investigation was underway to establish the complete backward and forward linkages and identify other persons involved in the network.

Sharing details of the operations, Amritsar Commissioner of Police Harmanbir Singh Gill said police teams, acting on specific information and following a systematic investigation, arrested Satnam Singh alias Sukha and Bhalla Singh while they were travelling in a car. Five pistols and five live cartridges were recovered from them.
