Ford Super Duty Owners Could Avoid Thousands in Repairs With This 5-Cent Fix

The problem can let water reach the battery junction box and cause electrical faults, and Ford has since released a part to address it. Owners could avoid repair bills running into the thousands of dollars.

Jon Galland of Whiteface Ford in Texas posted a video on the social media platform, showing a deflector that he believes could address the problem. Several owners have reportedly experienced water intrusion into the battery junction box. During rain, water runs through the channel beneath the windshield wipers before draining into the engine bay.

The water drains into the engine bay directly above the battery junction box. If the fuse box lid is damaged or not properly secured, water could enter the box, potentially causing a range of electrical problems for owners.

“All the electricity running through your truck flows through that box, and if it’s water intrusion, a whole slew of problems can happen,” Galland said.

He also points out a part Ford introduced for the Super Duty that sits alongside the water channel and helps redirect the water toward another area, allowing it to drain away from the fuse box.

Galland shows the part in question, asking Super Duty owners to take note of its part number (PL3B-C022B22-DA). He said the fix applies to 2023–2026 Super Duty models and is also compatible with 2020–2022 Super Duty pickups. Installing it is straightforward: owners simply need to position the deflector and secure it tightly so it stays put.

According to his Instagram bio, Galland runs what he calls the “most knowledgeable work truck shop in Texas.” That background lends weight to his diagnosis of the water intrusion problem and his likely proposed fix, which would help prevent serious electrical damage. Even so, Ford would ideally have caught the issue much sooner and told Super Duty owners about both the problem and the solution.
