Indian actor Disha Patani says she wants to take greater creative risks as she enters the next phase of her career, a decade after making her Bollywood debut with ‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story’.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, the 34-year-old actor described the early years of her career as a period of discovery, saying she was learning how film sets worked, how to face the camera and how to understand and portray characters.

“When I did M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, everything was new to me,” Patani said, reflecting on her early experience.

Patani said her approach to acting was initially instinctive, but years of experience have helped her better understand her craft and become more confident in making creative choices.

However, she said she does not want that experience to turn into complacency.

“I never want to reach a point where I feel like I know everything or that I can do something without putting in the work,” she said.

For Patani, the uncertainty that comes with each new role remains an important part of acting.

She said losing that curiosity would be a greater concern than facing challenges, as it is the desire to learn that continues to push her beyond her comfort zone.

Looking ahead, Patani said she wants to take on roles where glamour and physicality are not the central focus and where the character itself drives the story.

She expressed interest in psychological dramas, character-driven thrillers and action films featuring more complex characters.

“I don’t want to be defined by one particular kind of role or image,” Patani said.

The actor also hopes to work across different languages and genres and collaborate with a wider range of filmmakers as she begins the next decade of her career.

Patani was most recently seen in the action thriller Awarapan 2, which was released on August 13, 2026, and co-starred Emraan Hashmi.
