At a company in Karachi, women are assembling electric bikes and scooters while expertly using drilling machines, electric appliances, and other technical equipment.
The women working in this field say they have achieved mastery through training and practical experience in a sector traditionally dominated by men.
Speaking to ARY News, one of the female workers shared that she has been working in this field for a year and a half.
After taking an electrician course, she developed a passion to do something unique that no woman had attempted before. Driven by this ambition, she chose the field of electric bike manufacturing and assembly.
Another worker shared that she has been in the field for almost a year, having received all the necessary training after joining the company. She noted that she was provided with complete guidance and training, which enabled her to work confidently as a technician.
“It took me two to three months to learn this work, and I didn’t have to pay any fees for the training,” she said, adding that she is a mother of two—a boy and a girl. She mentioned that her children were amazed to learn that their mother performs such complex technical work.
Another female worker detailing her journey said she previously worked at a pharmaceutical company before transitioning to scooter manufacturing.
She noted that when she tells people about her job, they are often amazed by how she manages it. She added that she feels immense joy seeing people ride e-bikes, knowing that the bike they are riding might have been built by her hands.
Another interesting aspect of this project is that it is led by a woman. The project head stated that if women can lead in other professions, there is no reason for them to lag behind in the automotive industry.
With this vision, she decided to manufacture bikes herself, aiming to bring a large number of women into this workforce.
