Prophet Linked to Chivayo Arrested as Alleged Audio Reveals Final Ritual Plans
A private voice recording allegedly linked to Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has emerged online, generating renewed attention following his death in a helicopter crash last week.
The audio is reportedly addressed to preacher David Gozho, popularly known among his followers as Madzibaba David. It has circulated widely on social media since the fatal accident, with reports claiming that the voice in the recording has been authenticated as that of Chivayo.
In the recording, Chivayo is heard thanking the preacher for charms he allegedly provided, which the businessman credited with helping strengthen his relationship with President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Chivayo also reportedly asked Gozho whether he could conduct another ceremony at Lake Kariba.
According to accounts surrounding the recording, the proposed ceremony involved placing a clay pot containing ritual objects into the lake. Chivayo is further alleged to have promised Gozho a vehicle once his business ventures became successful.
Reports indicate that he eventually honoured that commitment by giving the preacher a new Toyota Fortuner as well as a bus.
The emergence of the recording has attracted additional attention because of Gozho’s subsequent arrest. Authorities reportedly detained the preacher in Goromonzi on Sunday over allegations linked to an armed robbery involving an EcoCash agent who was reportedly robbed of US$12,000. Gozho is expected to appear before a regional court in Marondera.
His arrest has prompted speculation among some commentators, with questions being raised about whether he may have been responsible for releasing the recording. Others have questioned the timing of his detention, particularly because of his reported association with the late businessman. However, there has been no confirmed evidence publicly establishing that Gozho released the audio.
Meanwhile, details surrounding the helicopter crash have continued to emerge. Chivayo and his wife, Lucy Muteke, died on September 30 after their aircraft reportedly crashed in heavy mist at Kudenga Farm near Marondera, approximately 40 minutes after take-off.
The couple had reportedly been returning from a rural property they were developing when the tragedy occurred. Two pilots and a security guard who were aboard the aircraft also died in the crash.
Family spokesperson Herbert Chivayo later described the condition of the wreckage and addressed speculation surrounding the victims. He said the intense fire had left the bodies severely damaged and confirmed that the victims’ heads were not recovered.
“It’s only me and Kalonzo, the two people, who know what we discussed.”
The tragedy has continued to attract public attention as authorities and relatives work to clarify circumstances surrounding the crash and the events connected to Chivayo’s final days.
