Saoirse Ronan insists Jack Lowden Bond rumours ‘aren’t being discussed in her house’ after his co-star Gary Oldman hinted he’d landed the role

Saoirse Ronan has insisted she and husband Jack Lowden haven’t discussed the rumours he’s in line to play James Bond, after his co-star Gary Oldman let slip he’d landed the role.
The Scottish actor, 36, has been hotly tipped to be cast as the next 007, with producers said to be ‘strongly considering’ the star for the role.
His Slow Horses co-star Sir Gary Oldman, 68, claimed Lowden has already been chosen and the public will find out soon, adding that he has his fingers crossed.
But Saoirse, 32, has insisted that she and Jack, who welcomed their first child in September 2025, haven’t spoken about the role.
She said: ‘I mean, well Gary Oldman thinks he’s James Bond, which is its own thing.
‘I mean, we’re kind of getting on with our life to be honest, we have plenty of other things to be dealing with, so yeah, it’s not really a subject that’s coming up in our house to be honest.’
Speaking to the Associated Press, she added: ‘The dog needs to be walked, the dinner needs to be made, we’re more focused on that.
‘Jack’s on Slow Horses right now, and he’s having a good time on that.’
Slow Horses has already been renewed for an eighth season, though whether Jack will reprise his role was not mentioned when Apple TV+ announced the news.
Five years on from Craig’s final scenes as the legendary character, the role is still yet to be cast, despite rumours swirling that Callum Turner, Jack Lowden, Harris Dickinson, Jack Barton and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are among those on the audition list.
A statement from Amazon MGM released earlier this year said: ‘The search for the next James Bond is underway.
‘While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right’.
Speculation about who will take over as Bond from Daniel Craig has been rife for months and recently heightened after Amazon MGM Studios announced auditions were finally taking place.
The job of finding the next Bond now falls to casting director Nina Gold and director Denis Villeneuve.
Presenter Richard Osman has also hinted that he has been told who is likely to take on the role.
Speaking to his co-host Marina Hyde on the latest episode of his podcast The Rest Is Entertainment, he said: ‘Someone told me for definite who the new Bond is the other day, but I mean that’s happened before. The name I’ve heard is Jack Lowden.’
Osman added: ‘It is definitely not a ‘he’s definitely got it’ thing. He is definitely being strongly considered. I think he’d be amazing.’
Ms Hyde agreed, pointing out that Lowden is ‘a good age’.
She added: ‘You have to have the longevity. They’ve got to do at least two movies, and he’s a good age for it.’
Osman said the actor has ‘real Daniel Craig energy’, adding that he ‘is such a brilliant actor. Can be funny, can definitely do action. I mean, I think he’d be sensational.’
Lowden, who also had a role in Christopher Nolan’s Second World War film Dunkirk, is set to star as Mr Darcy in Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice adaptation, which will release later this year.
Earlier this year, Gary appeared to let slip that Jack had already been cast as Bond, while on Canada’s The Morning Show.
‘It’s been rumored that he’s on the shortlist,’ Oldman told the host. ‘We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him.’
The Oscar-winner clarified: ‘They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet.’
